Meet Katie Holland

SCS Class of 2006

Katie Holland graduated from Stockdale Christian in 2006. She majored in Aerospace Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. During college, she interned for NASA at the Kennedy Space Center which led to her being hired as a NASA engineer when she graduated in 2014. Katie is currently working on cryogenics and the thermal and fluid analysis of the liquid oxygen loading system for the Artemis rocket at the Kennedy Space Center. Katie spends her free time serving in her church and volunteering at NASA’s outreach events.

When we started learning about Astronomy in 6th grade science class, I was overwhelmed with wonder and awe. I realized I wanted to do this as my career. It reignited my dream of becoming an astronaut that I had in kindergarten and I am still pursuing this dream!

Q&A with Katie:

Can you describe the moment when studying astronomy made you realize this was the career path you wanted to pursue?

“SCS developed a spirit of excellence in me that I’ve carried all my life. When we started learning about Astronomy in 6th grade science class, I was overwhelmed with wonder and awe. In 8th grade, I wrote a research paper about Apollo 11 which helped me realize that I wanted to pursue NASA and space exploration as my career. It reignited my dream of becoming an astronaut that I had in kindergarten and I am still pursuing this dream!”
